“The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd

The Invention of WingsWritten by Sue Monk Kidd, the author of Secret Lives of Bees, this novel follows two strong-willed women growing up in 19th century Charleston. One is a slave, the other the daughter of wealthy family who, from a young age, fights the idea of slavery. The Invention of Wings is modeled after the real life abolitionist Sarah Grimke, and thus provides an interesting history around some fictional characters. Definitely worth a read.
