Day 158 – What Do You Do When You Don’t Want to Do Something?

Not wanting to do somethingI really don’t want to do something.

But I’m feeling obligated to do it because of a position I hold. And in that position of Chair, I’m supposed to be looking out for the best interest of others.

So I know I need to be the person that leads the group through an issue.

I just don’t want to.

I am feeling stretched because of my stupid inability to say no. I sit on 12 committees, of which 8 of them are volunteer.

I just can’t say no to people that ask me, but it is exhausting. And when I’m tired I’m like others – I know I won’t do as good as job as needed because I’m tired.

But how do you say no? What if you feel like you owe it to a group to do the project. So you say yes and instantly regret it.

I read a post by Jenny Witte and she stated: Keep in mind that you don’t need to say yes simply because you are capable. Just because you CAN handle doing a project doesn’t mean you have to or should.

And that is so true, and is a big part of my problem. I know I can do something. I’m capable of doing it. But I don’t have time to do everything. Or at least not have time while juggling family, business, health and sanity.

So I need to pull on my big girl panties and just deal with it. I either need to decide to say no, or suck it up and get it done. I just hate disappointing people.

How do you say no to people? How do you decide what makes your yes list?
