Get Moving

I’m a year out from being 50, so what better time to really kick some butt (at least my own) and make exercise something fun and routine. This will be my most difficult challenge! But I plan to post lots of different workout options. Click here for my list to date.

Walk this way!

walk this wayGo get those headphones, make up a five song playlist and get out there. Now don’t make those songs slow and lovely cause you know your walking pace will match them. Find five songs that totally get you pumped and enjoy a nice brisk walk. My songs for today are:

Simple Minds “Alive and Kicking”
The Killers “Mr. Brightside”
Wham “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go”
Stray Cats “Rock This Town”
Neon Trees “1983”

What are your five walking songs?

Get your Bollywood grove on!

BollywoodI’m a huge fan of So You Think You Can Dance (got my tickets for the show when it tours here in February). I’m going to try a few of the different styles of dance over the next year for exercise, but the one that really looks like fun is Bollywood. There are a bunch of ones on the internet to follow. Yes you will look totally awkward to start, but if nothing else, the music is great. Go at your own pace!

Get your Bollywood groove on!

TV watching can help you exercise…

5It really can. That is if you don’t sit on your butt and watch it. One of my guilty afternoon shows is Ellen. Not that there is anything wrong with watching Ellen, it’s just I know I should be working or making dinner or something besides watching Ellen. The best part of her show is usually the monologue and first sketches. So if you put a stationary bike in front of the TV for this part, then it’s not so bad! I am lucky to have a stationary bike. But you could also walk on the spot. Anything to get the body moving. I also try to speed up during the commercials, so treat the show like interval training. Makes it more fun!!

Today’s challenge is to combine exercise with something you love (preferably not something bad that you love!).

Everyone get out, I’m dancing!

4So our teachers were on strike until this week. Thankfully the strike is over and my teenager is now at school. Because I’m not sure he would be able to handle watching me with today’s 15 minutes. I’m going to dance. Well at least move around for 15 minutes (or what my playlist for today says is 4 songs) to music. My songs for today are pure female motivation:

Jennifer Lopez – Dance Again
Lady Gaga – Edge of Glory
Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive
Blondie – One Way or Another

So close your curtains and dance away… Or even better open the windows and doors and get the neighbours talking!

Time to get moving!

WalkingI am amazing at thinking about what fitness routine I’m going to do every day and even more amazing at not getting it done! I am magically going to get toned and fit. It is just going to happen. Not so much! So of my 365DayMom challenges, this one is going to be the toughest. All I want to try to do, and encourage others to do, is to do something to get moving each day. To take a break. To get distracted. To make it part of my daily routine like brushing my teeth. I would never not brush my teeth twice a day! And so it begins!! 15 minute minimum is what I’m planning each day. Me time. You time. On the Move – walk for 15 minutes. Nothing hard about that. It’s just making the time. Heck I could march on the spot while I watch tv but know it would be nicer if I went outside.

Today’s Challenge – Get outside and walk.  15 minutes is your minimum.
