“The Book of Negroes” by Lawrence Hill

Book of NegroesThere are so many great things about this book. It is a fascinating history, especially the Canadian role in the issues of that era. It is written by a Canadian (who also happens to be the brother of Dan Hill of “Sometimes When We Touch” fame).

Lawrence Hill had to actually change the name of the book in the United States, Australia and New Zealand as the title was too controversial. So in those countries it is known as Someone Knows My Name. It has won a number of awards and recognitions.

I learned a lot from the book (and I shed a lot of tears too). Published in 2007.
